Infobyte Pty Ltd was started in 1995 and operated in the Sydney metropolitan area. The manager and principal is Geoffrey Veale. Prior to Infobyte Mr Veale had worked as a Consulting Acoustical Engineer for over 10 years. He has a Master of Science (Acoustics) from the University of NSW, a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auckland University, a New Zealand Certificate in Engineering from Auckland Technical Institute and is a qualified Mechanical Aircraft Engineer (Air New Zealand).
After 4 years of development and two limited production models the first iM3 noise logger prototype was built in 1999. This noise logger was significant for Infobyte as it was our first noise logger to use our own sound level meter and pre-amplifier electronics. The iM3 was also our first Type 1 noise logger, using an MK250 microphone capsule from Microtech Gefell of Germany.
The iM3 has proven to be extremely reliable with some loggers having done well in excess of 30,000 hours of logging. After a production run of 8 years the iM3 was superseded by the iM4 noise logger in 2008. The sound level meter electronics are an incremental development of the proven design used in the iM3, but using a modern 32 bit computer, and now utilising an industry standard Pelican case.
As of July 2018 production of iM4 Loggers has ceased, but all existing loggers will still be serviced.
